This Diploma in TESOL course is suitable for those who are new to teaching English and who wish to develop their skills in teaching students who are speakers of other languages. The programme will give the trainee teacher an introduction to the theory and practice of English teaching. TESOL provides an insight into the challenges facing the learner and the role of the teacher in the classroom. Teaching methodologies, techniques to develop language skills, phonology and morphology, the study of English grammar, lesson planning, plus the different learning styles and testing will be included. The practical aspect includes lesson observation and guided teaching practice.
Please note: The Diploma in TESOL course is the same programme as the Preparatory Course for TESOL.
Also, students will receive a Certificate in Lesson Planning at the end of the Diploma in TESOL course.
Requirements
At least 18 Years of age
At least 2 years working experience
GCE ‘O’ Levels with a credit in English or equivalent
For foreign students, a high school qualification and an IELTS score of 6.5 is required
If you do not fall within the above category but are interested, please summit all your qualifications. You will be asked to undergo a written English proficiency test. Your application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Assessments
Open book course assignments to be submitted to London Teacher Training College in the U.K. where they will be assessed and graded by two examiners.
There will also be one close book examination and a teaching practicum to be done.

- Error Analysis in Writing
- Students get classroom teaching experience. They are trained to prepare lesson plans on all four skills, as well as to teach grammar and pronunciation. The instructor will evaluate students’ lesson plans and classroom teaching and the marks obtained will go into their final grading.
Duration
This course is taught only on a part time basis.
There will be at least 40 sessions of contact time. The hours for examination are not included and are over and above these 40 sessions.
